Inspection/ Site Evaluation
A & S Pest Control will send a trained professional to your home or business to inspect, identify, and recommend a pest control solution to your problem. We will check your home’s perimeter, interior, attic, and basement/crawl space (if applicable).
Identification, Treatment and Prevention
We focus on preventing unwanted pests and rodents from entering and exiting the structure. Our inspection will reveal where the pests are gaining entry and the level of infestation. A & S will propose a total pest control solution that will eliminate their nest and areas where they breed.
Consumer Proactive Identification
The most effective way to prevent pest infestation is for the consumer to be proactive in identifying these offenders. You must know where they seek shelter, what various pests feed on in your dwelling, and the telltale signs of infestation. Please take special note of these pests profiles. Understanding their nature is essential to controlling their population. A & S Pest Control will assist you in this process. Once identified, our experienced staff will recommend an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) solution to control their population.

The eastern subterranean termite, nests in the soil and feeds on wood buried in or near the soil. This termite species prefers moist wood and is the common termite of New England. Worker termites are small white insects that avoid light and build mud tubes to reach wood above ground. The mud tubes are made of soil and saliva and are about the diameter of a pencil. Large termite swarms occur in the spring when black, winged reproductive males and females leave the nest to mate and disperse. The size of the underground colony can reach millions of workers and several buildings can be attacked by a single large colony.
Workers are pale white, small, soft bodied insects less than ¼ inches in length. The soldiers are fewer in number, larger and with a large head and mandibles. Soldier termites are white with a dark yellow head. The male and female reproductives are black with four pairs of equal size clear wings. The wings drop off immediately after mating and they may pile up near windows and other sources of light.
Termite damage to wood can be recognized because there are small fecal pellets of digested wood along with soil particles within the galleries. Galleries are typically located in wood close to or touching the ground or wood wet with excessive moisture from a leak or other water source. Rats are a hazard to public health. They can transmit a number of diseases which can be potentially fatal to man, such as Weil's disease and murine typhus. They also carry disease organisms such as salmonella bacteria, viruses and parasites such as worms and fleas.
In an urban environments, rats readily find food from a variety of sources such as refuse from commercial kitchens and restaurants, in addition to food waste obtained from scavenging in domestic refuse or in drains and sewers.
Rats will burrow, especially into soil, compost heaps, under coverings such as paved areas and under sheds. Gas and water pipes are also at risk and rat burrowing can undermine building foundations. They can be frequently found living inside buildings in the cavity between walls and in roof spaces, or beneath piles of rubbish, near water, or in drains and sewers. Due to their agility and ability to squeeze through small openings it is sometimes difficult to keep rats out of buildings without implementing some form of rodent proofing.
Rats continually gnaw and they have very hard incisor teeth which can penetrate materials such as concrete, lead and aluminium. This can result in expensive damage and even fires when electric cables are damaged.
Rats can breed quickly, a healthy female can produce five litters a year, each of

It is quite easy for infestations to build up without ever noticing a rat -
For these reasons it is critical that you seek a professional pest control company such as A & S to diagnose the extent of their infestation and design a program for their elimination and control.

Cockroaches are insects belonging to the family Blattidae and they share a common ancestry with termites and grasshoppers. American cockroaches are one of the most common insect pests found in urban areas throughout the world. This species of cockroach prefers to live in a warm humid atmosphere, the same conditions preferred by man, so it is no wonder that American cockroaches have adapted to living in buildings, ships, restaurants and greenhouses. Having had a longer track record of survival on the planet earth (300 million years versus 1 million years for man), it is believed by many that cockroaches are likely to out survive man in the long run. This fact sheet is focused on how to control American cockroaches that enter buildings in New England.

Silverfish are slender, wingless insects, shiny silver in appearance, approximately 10mm long with three, long bristletails at the end of their body.
They can be found in moist places such as kitchens and bathrooms, underneath floors, sinks, in cupboards, and along pipes where they hide during the day and feed during the night. They are extremely fast runners and are sometimes seen trapped in wash hand basins or baths where they are unable to climb out.
Silverfish are scavengers and can cause damage in the home by eating materials such as wallpaper, or books and other materials that are high in protein, sugar, starch, cereals. They seldom damage fibres of animal origin such as wool or hair. Damage often appears as irregular patches removed from wallpaper or irregular and notched edges on wallpaper or other paper products.
Tell tale sign of silverfish include scales, excrement, or yellowish stains on paper or fabric.
A female will lay less than 100 eggs during her lifetime depositing them in damp and warm places such as cracks and crevices or behind skirting boards.
The eggs hatch after two to eight weeks depending upon conditions. The lifecycle
is completed within 3 -
The insects and their eggs can be brought into the home in cardboard boxes, books, papers, starched and rayon fabrics, and other carbohydrate materials. A & S Pest Control inc. has a specially designed program to control and eliminate their population.

The five most common ants you will find in the house are the Argentine, Pharaoh, Thief, Odorous house and Carpenter ants. The most prevalent of these home invading ants are the Argentine ants. These ants are particularly difficult to eradicate. They live in the soil at shallow depths where multiple numbers of queens lay thousands of eggs daily.
Ants can spread germs through out your home.
This means they can spread disease everywhere they walk. Ants can crawl across your decaying spoiled garbage, through your sewer over dead animals and then the plates and silverware in your kitchen. They bring into your home bacteria of all kinds. They foster the multiplication of destructive plant pests. Control can be very difficult even while knowing which ant is present.
Like ants, wasps are social creatures, and form colonies consisting of workers (infertile females), males and a queen.
Hornets are part of the wasp family, and their life cycle is very much the same.
Typically, wasps nests are found in earth banks, in buildings (roof spaces or cavities in walls), in trees or bushes. They build nests every year, with the colder months killing off workers and males.
Wasps cause a nuisance for various reasons. It is usually the late summer when the
workers do not have to feed the larvae with high protein food, and they can indulge
in sweet substances -
As the cooler weather comes, the wasps become more irritable, and this is not helped
by them feeding on over-
A wasp sting is caused by the injection of poison into the victim, causing redness and swelling. In some cases more serious effects occur, and you should seek medical advice if this happens.
